so, guess what? I'm a daddy. My little boy was born yesterday!

In art related news ... I've been drawing a lot, but scanning almost nothing... one day I'll start dumping stupid stuff on all of you... until then I'm just in the background, looking, faving, making a few dorky comments....

Anyway, I be done with work for the day, so I'm off to the hospital to hang with the Little Dude (we're calling him that in lew of a proper name, but darned if I don't want to write it on his birth certificate. "Little Dude"!!)

CONTEST!! (that means you!)

-------------

An idea for a project, if anyone is interested.

Recently I have become interested in the "Prince Valliant" style of comics story telling... where the illustrations and the text interact together to produce something that isn't quite a standard comic, yet could not survive as a novel either. It is an interesting style that I am thinking of pursuing both as an artist and reader.

Right now I am toying with writing my own story in text to illustrate in that fashion, but in the mean time, I thought, wouldn't it be fun to hold contests for people to illustrate various spam e-mail that I get?

Ok, so, the contest is on. The prize shall be one free copy of my black and white illustration booklet called "Ink" and a signed black and white ink drawing (something original that is not in the book). I am a lazy bastard, so I will not take requests for the signed drawing. I promise to make it good, but I also promise that it will be whatever I feel like drawing at the time.

If people are interested, I will decide on a time line based on response.

Here is the first spam e-mail to be illustrated. You can follow it word for word, or you can get as abstract and surreal with your illustrations as you want. Non-sequiter (sp?) is allowed AND encouraged. If you don't want to draw a "real" coffee shop, you could interpret it as some coffee cups floating in the middle of outer space, or just close up in on the characters' faces and forget the background all together. The story can all be stuffed into a few illustrations, or paced out into pages of material... it's all up to you! The only requirement is that it has to meet all DA rules and regulations, whatever those are....

news from kinkos

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 27, 2007, 12:00 AM
It seems these books are going to be about 200 yen per book to print up (which is roughly the equivilent of two bucks per book)... yeah, its a doozy for a poor wordsmith like me.

It has been a rough couple of months financially, so I guess I am going to hold off on printing till December or January...

Anyhow, the entire booklet is saved on a memory stick, just waiting for me to go stick it in a Kinkos computer and work the job out, baby. On a personal note, I am so gosh darn happy to have it done! Even though it isn't really done... but it's done enough for me to start on new projects.

So, yes, in the mean time I will be doing some other projects... not exactly sure what yet, but you all will be the first to know. Well, I'll actually be the first to know. And my scanner will be second. But you guys will definitely be in the top five.
